Profile

ReMedia was set up in 2005 by 44 leading firms in the consumer-electronics and ICT sector and operates under the patronage of the major trade associations and federations in that sector.  These include:  Anie (the National Federation of Electrotechnical and Electronic Companies), Andec (the National Association of Civil Electronics Importers and Producers), Ancad (trade in dental articles), Assogiocattoli (toys, Christmas decorations and childcare articles), Assorologi(producers and distributors of watches), Ascomut (power tools), Assoprom (advertising and promotional articles), Dismamusica (musical instruments) and Unidi (dental industries).

ReMedia represents the industry and is today the principal multi-category collective-system for the eco-sustainable management of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment).

ReMedia was established to respond to the need of firms that produce, import and market electrical and electronic equipment to be ready to comply with Legislative Decree 151 of 25 July 2005 when it came into force.  The decree placed a duty on these firms to organise and fund the collection and treatment operations for recycling WEEE.

In terms of market share and organisation, ReMedia is today a leader in WEEE management.  It is able to guarantee not only proper fulfilment of legal obligations but also optimisation of economic resources and standards of excellence in the recycling of end-of-life equipment.  It is able to do so thanks in part to its careful selection of suppliers, which has resulted in partnerships with the top operators in logistics and treatment services.

It was ReMedia, in January 2008, that made the first collection of WEEE in Italy, so inaugurating the new management system introduced with Decree 151/05 and entrusted for its operation to the producers' collective systems.

ReMedia now has more than 1000 members, including numerous leading firms in sectors involving electronics, telecommunications, electrical appliances, musical instruments, watches, toys, medical devices and large-scale retailing.

Since November 2006, ReMedia has been a member of the WEEE FORUM, the European association founded in 2002 by the major non-profit collective systems in EU Member States. Thanks to its stature in this connection ReMedia is constantly updated at Community level and is in constant dialogue with the leading European organization, so contributing to the definition of common policies and to the development of a modern, competitive WEEE-management system.

ReMedia, a founding member of the WEEE Coordination Centre, is contributing to the development of a flexible, modern and innovative system of integrated WEEE management and its views are valued by the institutions and stakeholders involved.

All the activities of the ReMedia Consortium are non-profit, a further guarantee of transparency and seriousness vis-à-vis its members, partners, and consumers.
