Under Legislative Decree 151 it is the responsibility of producers to find the money for the carriage, treatment, recovery operations, and environmentally-compatible disposal required for WEEE.

A producer is understood as any party, irrespective of the sales technique used, that: 

·         manufactures and sells electrical and electronic equipment bearing its trademark; 

·         resells, under its own trademark, equipment produced by other suppliers;

·         imports or first releases on to the national market electrical and electronic equipment in the course of a commercial activity and markets such equipment. As far as historical household WEEE is concerned, producers will have collective responsibility in proportion to their respective market shares. This responsibility is met through setting up collective systems such as ReMedia.
